Cluck It Farm was started by Amanda. She turned her passion into her job, and dreams into reality when she started the farm herself in 2017. She grew up in Las Vegas, but one story her mom likes to share is when they were living in upstate New York when she was young. Amanda had tried throwing away all the pears that had fallen from their grandfather’s tree after spraining her ankle on one, but as soon as she learned that people paid money for those pears she was out on their street the next day selling pears for 10 cents. You could say even at 6 years old she had a love of farming and entrepreneurship. She runs the farm with her mom, son, and her husband-who she convinced to quit his carpeting job last year to work on the farm. They raise chickens, and have the entire backyard filled edge to edge with beds of rotating produce. It’s so fun to listen to Amanda talk about her vast knowledge of soil and growing conditions for different crops. It’s a true labor of love that you can see in the quality of the produce they bring to the community. 🐓❤️🙌
We’re going to start using from their CSA program some of our meals. This week if you have any salads they will feature the fresh lettuce that she grows beautifully all through the year, as well as the freshly picked Cherry Tomatoes and Zucchini & Squash. 🍅🥒🥬

I want to share because what Diana said encapsulates so much of the reason behind why we started Miss Mylk.. After COVID began and we didn’t have a choice besides making all three meals a day ourselves at home or ordering out from restaurants, planning and eating the same takeout meals started feeling exhausting, redundant and unhealthy. After three months packed with tastings and drinks, it’s time for a pause. Since I was vaccinated and started going out again, Ive gotten back into unhealthy habits which don’t serve me.
So, I’m doing something about it.

I’ve felt out of control and I’m so excited to get back into it.

I (Kelsey) was born and raised in Las Vegas and Dustin is from a town outside Cleveland, Ohio but quickly fell in love with Vegas once I showed him downtown. We’ve both spent our whole careers in the food and customer service industry and have cooked together the last five years in Colorado and Ohio, and previous to this we were both helping open and manage the @hummusbowls locations in town. We’re glad to partner with them to bring you Miss Mylk and our sister company who will also be with us at First Friday, @craveheirloom ❤️

In 1967, Julie and Larry Martin who were living with their three children in Southeast Idaho caught their lucky break. Larry had wanted to farm since they first got married in 1959 but it just wasn’t possible, until a local farmer in the area decided to retire and sold them all his farming equipment. From there began Martin Farms.
They started as a two person team growing and harvesting while also taking care of their kids, and spent many years of intense hard labor, cutting and planting potatoes by hand before equipment advanced, and they went from the ability to harvest two rows at a time to twelve.
In 1994 Larry passed away, and his sons Bill, Travis, and Zay took the reigns and continued growing the farm into a large and successful operation. Matriarch Julie said that there was no better place to raise a family than a farm, and we agree. It was from that value in family, community, and pure grit that their sister company, @spudfunds was born when the pandemic hit in 2020.
Now a 3rd generation farm, and faced with a surplus of potatoes that would have been going to restaurants like In-n-Out, 5 Guy’s, and Ruth’s Chris Steakhouses, they decided to put their same efforts of getting their best potatoes straight to the people. They take their freshest harvests and drive them out to people themselves, and this week Las Vegas was actually their first stop! Through Spud Funds they’ve also managed to donate over 2,000 pounds of potatoes to restaurants and have helped multiple organizations raise over $5,000. We’re so proud to be able to work directly with people like them who share the same values and know the value of hard work.
